Exhibit 6: Frank P. Bowyer Memorandum on Soule, 1961
This collection houses an agenda and exhibits documenting the University of Tennessee Board of Trustees Special Meeting that took place on November 10, 1961. The first several exhibits deal with a controversy surrounding George Soule, an Economics professor engaged in developing a doctoral program in that discipline at the University, that had developed as a result Soule's outspoken support for socialist philosophy and accusations that he was trying to link the Economics Department with a Knoxville socialist group. A copy of Keynes at Harvard, which cites Soule in several places, is included. Other materials address an appeal by Edwin Chapman for medical admission and provide updates on more routine topics, including budget matters, development, and endowments.
