Robert K. Kyle Scopes Trial Articles and Documents, circa 1920s-1960s
This collection contains the documents of Robert K. Kyle, a reporter from Culver, Indiana who was present at the Scopes Trial (also known as the Scopes Monkey Trial) in 1925 in Dayton, Tennessee. The collection is made up of 62 different documents, most of them being newspaper clippings and other articles related to the trial. Many of the articles are flyers for events that Kyle attended and presented information that he remembered from the trial. There are also pictures and letters to and from Kyle that show his interest and research about this event. He often corresponded with Tennessee officials that would know more about the trial, and these letters are included in the collection. He most frequently corresponded with Earl. L. Shaub, a reporter from Nashville who also covered the trial. Several of the articles are from the 1960s, around the time when Stanley Kramer's film adaptation of Inherit the Wind was released. Several of the documents discuss this film as well.
