This collection is a letter from Samuel Bond to his sister Melinda Bond from June 25, 1825. In his letter, Bond writes to his sister Melinda in Mooresville, Alabama, and discusses his experience at Cumberland College. He acknowledges that he gets along well with his roommate, and he talks about the religious services that occur at the college. In addition, he discusses his visit with General Andrew Jackson and notes that Jackson is not in the best of health. Furthermore he notes that his wife liked to talk and seemed to be very concerned with religion.

The collection also includes a photocopy of a letter from Stanley J. Folmsbee, Professor Emeritus, to Sam Smith, faculty member in the History Department at the University of Tennessee. This photocopied letter is dated December 3, 1971. In this letter, Folsbee gives Smith some background on the Samuel Bond letter.
