S. B. Moe Letter Regarding the Battle of Chickamauga, circa 1916, 1932 April 16

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 1
From the Collection:

This collection consists of two letters written sixteen years apart. The first is by Colonel S. B. Moe describing his experiences during the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863. Moe's letter is addressed to The Chickamauga Chattanooga National Military Park Commission. Moe explains that he wants all accounts of the battle to be taken into consideration. He believed that the monuments and descriptive tablets that existed at the time were not completely accurate. Moe gives his account of the locations of troops and military authority figures very specifically. He concludes by reminding the Commission that the information they chose to put on the tablets was incorrect. It is undated, but Colonel Moe gave it to Anne Hyde in 1916. The second letter was written by Hyde and describes her encounter with Moe. It is not addressed to anyone, but it is dated April 16, 1932.
