Wirt Howe Autobiography, circa 1940
This collection consists of four typed volumes of Wirt Howe's autobiography. Howe worked on his autobiography until he died in 1940, and his sister B. H. Heward compiled the manuscript after his death. The work details Howe's childhood years beginning with his earliest memory and spans until a trip he made to Canada in 1939. Volume I is 203 pages, Volume II is 190 pages, Volume IIIa is 275 pages, and Volume IIIb is 449 pages. In addition to chronicling Howe's life, this work also sheds light on life in New York at the turn of the 20th century and on Tennessee in the 1930s.
