Letter, Elijah Hawn in Lexington, Ky. to Nancy (Buxton) Hawn, 1863 March 18

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 1, item: 4

Elijah Hawn wrote this letter from camp in Lexington, Kentucky on March 18, 1863. In it, he lets his family know he is well and hopes they are well also. He writes of leaving Murfreesboro on March 5, 1863 and traveling to Nashville, Tennessee, where they stayed for three days. The men then boarded a boat and within 50 hours were in Louisville, Kentucky. Once there, the men then boarded another boat to Lexington, making the trip a total of 8 days and approximately 800 miles. Elijah doesn’t expect to be there long, suspecting they will be moving to Summerset or Williamsburg soon. Elijah concludes the letter by once again urging Nancy to write him and assuring her that he is serving the Lord the best way he can.
