This collection consists of a wide variety of documents pertaining to a partially completed project by Marian S. Moffett regarding Tennessee county seats, intended to have eventually resulted in a paper or book. The research was performed around 2004. The documents in the collection include maps, deeds, plates, and photographs of the various Tennessee counties, as well as Moffett's personal research notes. The maps, deeds, and plats date between 1796 and 2004 and are all photocopies of originals; the photographs in the collection are originals and probably date from around 2004. Most of the documents concern Tennessee counties and their respective county seats, but some of the documents pertain to other towns in Tennessee and other Southern towns like Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Gainsville, Georgia. The county seat maps and other Tennessee and Southern town maps are oversized and are arranged alphabetically by name.
