This collection consist of four folders of material gives a glimpse into the life of the Freytag family, a miltary family from Wartburg, TN. The collection includes correspondence, press clippings, photographs, and certificates regarding three of the Freytag children: Albert Jr., Fred, and Maxwell. The Freytag Family papers were donated to the Center for the Study of War and Society by the family matriarch, Ethel Freytag. All materials are photocopies.

Albert Freytag enlisted in the Marines and was assigned to the Fleet Marine Force. The collection includes photocopies of postcards to his mother after he joined the Marines and notification of where he was to be trained, correspondence to his mother, newspaper articles regarding his enlistment and his assignment to the Fleet Marine Force, a photograph of Albert in his uniform, a certificate stating his name was going to be placed on the Honor Roll in the Memorial Building of Wartburg, TN, and a photograph of Albert receiving a certificate for thirty years of service to his country.

Fred E. Freytag enlisted in the Navy and was an airplane mechanic. His papers include newspaper articles detailing the events surrounding his time in the war, including a time when his plane was shot down over the North Sea. It also contains a certificate commemorating his crossing of the Arctic Circle in 1943 while serving on the U.S.S. Ranger. Additionally, the collection contains a certificate noting that Fred Freytag's name would be placed on the Honor Roll in the Memorial Building of Wartburg, TN.

Maxwell Freytag enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was later a Chemical Warfare Specialist stationed in Italy. This collection contains newspaper clippings regarding his service as well as war correspondence and a certificate noting that his name would be posted on the Honor Roll in the Memorial Building of Wartburg, TN.

Additionally, this collection contains a newspaper clipping belonging to Ethel Freytag that discusses the service of her three sons.
