Correspondence to George Crout, 1942 July
This collection consists of of George Crout's World War II materials including personal military records, correspondence, operational materials used by the Jungle Air Force, and ephemera. Most of this material was collected and saved by Crout's mother while he was in service. Also in the collection are photographs taken during his time in the Pacific Theater.
The material is arranged into five topical series:
Series I, Personal Military Records and Publications, includes press releases, manuscripts of articles and books by Crout, and a large collection of brief biographies of fellow soldiers.
Series II, Correspondence, includes letters from schoolchildren as well as family and friends, organized by month from January 1942 through December 1945.
Series III, Photographs, Maps, and Press Clippings, includes personal photographs as well as aerial images taken for strategic purposes. Crout organized some of these photos and gave them titles according to their area or topic; these titles have been maintained where possible.
Series IV, Ephemera, includes military-issued maps and travel information, a songbook, and a small package of cigarettes.
Series V, Oversized Materials, include large format maps, photographs, and newspapers. Included are silk maps showing the Pacific Theater of Operations.
