The four-page letter, mailed January 4, 1864, contains rare information about the Battle of Mossy Creek in Mossy Creek, TN which occurred on December 29, 1863. Private Pembroke S. Scott wrote to his brother in Ohio, detailing the bloody battle scenes and relating the news of the wounded and deceased. He also talks enthusiastically of the schooling his brother is participating in. Scott quotes Dr. Franklin and talks of sending news to their mother of his welfare after the battle.
