Dannie Arthur Carr Correspondence, 1969 July 2
This collection contains correspondence between Dannie Arthur Carr and his high school girlfriend, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Fox Smith, during his time deployed in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. Included are ninety-four letters written over the course of nine months from November 1968 to July 1969 by Carr to Libby about his daily life and activities while serving in the Vietnam War. He includes information about the weather, patrols, his platoon, and the hardship of being away from loved ones.

Biographical/Historical Note
Dannie Arthur Carr was born on June 30, 1947 in Sevierville, Tennessee. He enlisted and served in the Army for a year before dying on July 3, 1969 in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam, just after his 22nd birthday. Carr’s death is listed as a hostile ground casualty by artillery fire and body was recovered. He never married and is buried in Zion Grove Cemetery in Sevier County, Tennessee.
