Loose Photographs from Album, 1915-1925
This collection is a photograph album, belonging to Mary K. Barden of Hartford, Tennessee. It contains 152 black and white photographs in the album and 28 loose black and white photographs attached separately. This album is dated from 1915 to 1925. The pictures are taken in Hartford, Tennessee and its surrounding areas including Newport and Del Rio. The photographs are of missionaries and teachers in rural Tennessee. They include many scenes of teachers, rural farmers, and many children working outside. Two missions named are Blacks Mission and Ebenezer Mission.
There are some captions in the photograph album. In the inside cover, there is a caption that reads "Mary K. Barden, Hartford, Tenn." There is also a caption under three photographs on the first page: "Blacks Mission", "Ebenezer Mission", and an illegible caption under the third photograph. The second page has three photographs with captions: "Teachers at Blacks", "Teachers at Tampa", and "Teachers at Ebenezer". The third page has two photographs with captions: "Mountain Soil Well Moistened" and "Misses [Fulkleson] ? Roberts and Anderson and Dr. Black Newport, Tenn." On the fourth page there is only one photograph with a caption, "Coming Through the Rye". Although there are more pages, these are the only photographs with captions written about them.
