This collection consists of 28 photographic postcards assembled through application of botanical photographs taken by Heilman attached to thick cardstock of varying shape and sizes, with a message enscripted on the back of each. Ranging from 1980 to 2009, only postcards from the years 1997 and 2005 are missing. This friendly correspondence highlights Heilman's thirty years at the University of Tennessee as well as his activities during his retirement, and also includes the taxonomic title of each plant pictured. Addressed to Danuta (Nitecki), or "Dana," the correspondence occasionally extends beyond consistent wishes of a happy holiday to reflect the timeline of Dr. Heilman’s career at the University of Tennessee. Topics of conversation include research in the Smoky Mountains and beyond, the building of John C. Hodges Library in 1987, UT pay cuts, his anticipated retirement, and finally his enjoyment of leisurely photography during his retirement.
