James "J. D." Blankenship Jr. Collection, circa 1940s
This collection contains documents, correspondence, and photographs belonging to James David "J. D." Blankenship Jr., a private in the U.S. Army during World War II. Documents include several ration booklets and cards, military training booklets, copies of local Kingsport, Tennessee newspaper articles related to Blankenship's draft and entrance into the Army, and a photocopy of Blankenship's copy of "The 5th Division in France," an account of his division's movements during the war. Photographs are mainly images from Blakenship's time in Europe including scenery shots, a photograph of the Danube River, images of children and other American soldiers, and a large group of Nazi soldiers at a demonstration in Saarlautern, Germany.
