From the Collection:

This collection contains correspondence, memoranda, tables and graphs on academic departments and colleges, meeting minutes from various planning committees, promotional university publications, and other information documenting the Office of the Chancellor during William T. Snyder's administration.

Series I contains information on issues discussed between Chancellor Snyder and UT faculty and staff, including Marianne Woodside (Executive Assistant to the Chancellor), John Peters (Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs), Michael Devine (Vice Chancellor for Research), Sue Mettlen (Vice Chancellor for Information Infrastructure), Phil Scheurer (Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Administration), and Alan Chesney (Executive Director of Human Resources). This series is composed primarily of correspondence and meeting agendas, complete with handwritten notes.

Series II contains information on business, industry, academic, and government partnerships made by the University, including a failed partnership with Prosolvia, a Swedish company, to build an Advanced Visualization Center in Knoxville. This incident led to a conflict of interest and the subsequent resignation of the Vice Chancellor for Information Infrastructure.

Series III contains data on university marketing campaigns and brand identification intended to emphasize UT Knoxville's place as the flagship research institution of the state and to distinguish it from the other members of the UT system. This series also houses Snyder's and others' visions for a comprehensive UT marketing strategy and some of the promotional publications that resulted.

Series IV contains information on a wide variety of campus affairs, including diversity, environmental policy, five-year plans, and the university-wide restructuring that resulted from a budget crisis in the late 1990's (addressed by ACPB, the Advisory Committee for Planning and Budgeting). Much of this series consists of correspondence, action plans, and data tables developed by the various committees concerned with these issues. This series also houses papers and articles written by UT administrators in support of statewide tax reform to support higher education as well as many calls for students and faculty to write and call state lawmakers.

Series V contains correspondence with students and alumni during the early years of the Chancellor's administration. The letters involve a wide range of subjects including students issues, scholarships, recruitment, and alumni requests.

Series V contains correspondence with the public during the early years of the Chancellor's administrations. Many of the letters contain information regarding events held by the Chancellor, appointments to the athletic staff, and issues with the UTK system. General Correspondence contains many letter of congratulations and thanks from the Chancellor.
