Taxes, State, Idaho, 1940 - 1945
This collection houses correspondence, articles, speeches, and other materials documenting James P. Pope's career. Nearly all of these papers date from Pope's term as Director of the Tennessee Valley Authority (1939-1951).
Included in the correspondence are Senator Pope's Reading Files (1945-1951), which give a comprehensive look into his life during that period. Letters from persons of note can be found throughout the collection. Presidents Roosevelt and Truman head the list, although most of these letters are of a personal nature. Being concerned with the public relations of the TVA, Pope spoke frequently on various subjects. He also continued his interest in foreign affairs while with the TVA. Many of his activities centered on the United Nations and other world peace and brotherhood organizations.
