This collection documents the activities of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club from its inception in the 1920s through the 2020s. It includes materials such as correspondence, administrative files, photographs, handbooks, and more.

Series I: Administrative Papers (1929-2013) consists of administrative materials related to the club including president's files, correspondence, board minutes, and Ridgerunner reports.

Series II: Publications (1925-2019) contains materials published by the club including newsletters and hike notices. Note: the yearly handbooks published by the club are in a separate series on their own.

Series III: Subject Files (1922-2015) consists of various material documenting the club's activities arranged by subject. Items include Wilderness Hearings, anniversary information, trail studies, and more.

Series IV: Handbooks (1926-2025) contains the yearly handbooks created by the club.

Series V: AV and Media (1925-1997) includes media materials such as photographs, slides, and tape recordings.

Series VI: Songbooks (1949, 1974) includes songbooks and sheets owned by the club.

Series VII: Artifacts (1922-1999) contains artifacts and objects such as rubber stamps and a shirt featuring the club's logo.

Series VIII: Addendum (1948-2019) includes all items added to the collection after its original processing. These items were sent to Special Collections in 2019 and include newspaper articles, hike sign-up sheets, and more.
