Letter to Joe Downing from Larry Calcagno, 1955 November 8
Lawrence Calcagno responds to Joe Downing, claiming that the Time's reporter had taken what he was trying to say out of context about Paris and about Europe. He writes that the artist should not rely wholly upon context and place, but rather the artist should work to try "to perceive and to grasp in the deepest sense, the infinite complexity of human nature". Typescript.
