John Dunlap and David Henley Letters, 1800 August 18-September 17
This collection consists of correspondence between John Dunlap and David Henley. In a letter to Henley dated August 18, 1800, Dunlap mentions that he has not had any correspondence from Henley in some time and requests that Henley check on the status of a debt that the Governor of Tennessee (John Sevier) owes him. Henley replied (using the same sheet of paper) on September 17, 1800, saying that he has done as Dunlap requested but that the Governor remains recalcitrant. Henley goes on to suggest that Dunlap initiate a lawsuit and asks him to send proof of the debt so that he (Henley) can consult with a lawyer.
