James M. Griffin Diary, 1943
This collection houses color photocopies of the diary that infantryman James M. Griffin kept during his tour of duty in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Each diary entry is accompanied by images of such pertinent information as maps, newspaper clippings, photographs, and medals. The record begins with Griffin's induction at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1941 and continues on to document his training in the Fiji Islands, the Russell Islands, and on Guadalcanal, his combat experiences on New Georgia Island, his stays in Army hospitals, and finally his return home to the United States. Griffin notes that he lost his original diary on New Georgia and that this replacement is comparatively brief.
