Acts Passed at the Second Session of the Third Congress of the United States of America
at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, begun on November 3, 1794. This bound imprint was unbound from a larger volume and contains a title page then pp. 135-232, Chapters 66-118, 1796
Chapter LXVI. An Act to authorize the President to call out and station a Corps of Militia, in the four Western Counties of Pennsylvania, for a limited Time.
Chapter XCVIII. An Act to provide some present Relief to the Officers of Government, and other Citizens, who have suffered in their Property by the Insurgents of the Western Counties of Pennsylvania.
Both of the preceding acts refer to the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794 that resulted in President Washington's calling out the militia and seizure of a number of people in western Pennsylvania -- a real test of the government's authority and law enforcement power.Chapter LXXXV. An Act to establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and to repeal the Act heretofore passed on that Subject.
Some of the requirements set by this act include renouncing your former allegiances, living within the United States or its territories for at least five years, and making an oath of intention to be a United States citizen in court three years before admittance. There is also the stipulation that the subject must be a free white person.Chapter CXVI. An Act making Provision for the Purposes of Trade with Indians.
This allowed up to $50,000 for purchasing goods for supplying the Indians for 1795.
