Packet of pension and disability affidavits for Burnett and his widow;, 1882-1894
The Marquis D. L. Burnett Collection, 1846-2000 (bulk 1862-1894), contains a memo book, photograph, and documents pertaining to Lt. Col. Marquis D. L. Burnett. The memo book (Series I) records Burnett's experiences during the Civil War as part of the 5th Tennessee Mounted Infantry of S. P. Carter's 24th Brigade, Brigadier Gen. George W. Morgan's 7th Division, Army of the Ohio, and his travels throughout the mountains of Kentucky and Tennessee (March 1862-August 1863). The journal also includes drafts for preparing claims for soldiers pay, a draft of an affidavit regarding Burnett's injury, an application for arrears of pay and bounty, and account details for soldiers' provisions. The rest of it deals with his postwar career as a Baptist minister with ordination services, sermon topics, reports of service and labor, and a poem (November 1871-April 1879).
The second series includes background information and copied documents for Burnett. Included is his photograph, a marriage certificate (1846), 1995 & 2000 articles about churches he preached for, a packet of Civil War service records (1862-93), and a packet of pension and disability affidavits for him and his widow (1882-94).
