World War I-related materials, 1918-1919
This collection consists of items from the Civil War, World War I and World War II. The Civil War letter was written on July 25, 1862 from H. S. Wells (a paroled prisoner) to Verness Williams (Lucille Williams's husband's grandfather); a typed transcription is included. Items regarding World War I include two military postcards which officially informed families of soldiers' whereabouts. Items regarding World War II include a photograph of the island from which the Enola Gay flew, a 1995 Chicago Tribune facsimile edition of a 1945 newspaper, a newspaper clipping from the Detroit Free Press of the complete text of General MacArthur's address to Congress, and a few Reader's Digest clippings.
