Julius E. Thomas Diary, 1863-1864
This collection contains the diary/scrapbook of Julius E. Thomas, a soldier with Company F of the 1st Tennessee Cavalry (Union) during the Civil War. The diary entries span from June 1, 1863 through August 4, 1864. The diary is not in strict chronological order.
In the diary, Thomas describes his actions, travelling throughout the state of Tennessee. In the entries from early 1864, he describes his movements in East Tennessee. He writes of foraging and skirmishes in the area. Specific places mentioned include Strawberry Plains, Morristown, Sevierville, and Dandridge.
Aside from diary entries, the collection contains poetry, camp songs, newspaper clippings, and illustrations.
