David A. Moulton Letter, 1864 February 19
The collection contains a letter dated February 19, 1864 written from Knoxville, Tennessee. The letter is written by David A. Moulton to mother Miriam S. Moulton in Hampton, New Hampshire. He mentions a recent battle with Lieutenant General Longstreet of the Confederate Army. He states that "Old Longstreet hates to leave east Tennessee last week our cavalry had a fight with him and whipped him took some prisoners and two pieces of artillery. . . Longstreet might as well leave the state for if he could not take noxville before he cannot now it is fortified very strong."
