A. Stael Letter, 1819 December 29
Paris December 29, 1819
I have received, gentlemen, the letters that you did me the honor of writing on October 21 and November 19. The latter informed me that you have been interested in the account of Madame de Broglie and as for mine 54% of that which is still owed of the 6% of the division (?).
I suppose that as we agreed you really wanted to use in purchase of 3% the sum of the funds of your account, and that my letter reaches you, you will have had the kindness of sending me six (?) sold at 32 each (?).
I agree with you, gentlemen, that the funds of the State of New York present as much security as those of the United States, but they are lesser known in Europe, and although I do not think I am selling, I believe I must give the preference to 3% of the union, despite their higher price.
Allow me to remind you that Madame de Broglie and I have a very great desire to get rid of our lands and that if you can find a way of buying them we will be infinitely obliged.
Please, gentlemen, receive again all the distinguished sentiments that I have devoted to you for a long time. They must be more sincere A. Staël
