Union Soldier's Letter, undated

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 1
From the Collection:

This incomplete letter, written by an unknown Union soldier while in Bailey's Crossroads, Virginia, during the Civil War, discusses an attack by rebel forces. It also discusses a battle that may occur at any moment. He writes that his unit plans to move on to Rome, Atlanta, or Savannah, and mentions that Burnside and Grant expect to aid them. The soldier also writes of receiving a letter that "brings memories and peace to fill where before was naught but misery and loneliness, and of the treachery of men generally, the false, hypocrite horde that cluster around you."
