A. S. Andrews Letter, 1862 April 11
This collection consists of a single letter from Union soldier A. S. Andrews to his brother dated April 11, 1862. It is written from Cairo, Illinois. In it, Andrews describes the aftermath of the Battle of Pittsburg, also known as the Battle of Shiloh, which took place April 6-7, 1862. Andrews depicts the Confederate prisoners of war as a hard looking class and tells of the large numbers of wounded from the battle. He also makes reference to Governor Richard Yates, who was Governor of Illinois at the time.
