Maryville
April 27 88
Dear son & family
We returned home home from Calvins last night. the drive was a cold stormy one, but it stired me up until I feel better than usual today, was at town to day, The road here was better, finally good frost this morning. did not do much ham perhaps very dry. I am so weak in my legs that I cant walk but very little, recd a letter from a man, that will board me, at the springs, will go in a few days, when it gets a little warmer, Jen has an heir but it was dead born. She is doing all right, dell is getting fair wages at the Factory, for the time she has been there Tim com to Calvins to see us last Sunday, he is very well pleased with his situation
We took 14 head of calves to Calvins the pasture is good, the grass looks well in the meadow. the boys are getting up a bridge hill of lumber, for Maryville worth $103.00 it is all oak. for a bridge you seem to be fixing to stay in the south the boys has not broke, but one mule to make team so I could have a horse to travel on. but muss break two more and work 4 in one wagon soon. the corn seems to be coming up. fairly well as it is, but the wheat looks yellow not much in the spirit of writing when I feel so bad, will try to write again shortly
Yours E. Johnson
