O. M. Swanay Pharmacy Notebook and Prescription Sheet, circa 1920
This black, faux leather bound notebook belonged to Dr. Ottie Milburn (O. M.) Swanay, who practiced pharmacy in both in Treadway and Rogersville, Tennessee. It contains handwritten entries detailing the symptoms of various diseases and the recipes for the prescriptions used to treat them. These pathological entries mention a variety of maladies common in the early twentieth century, including tonsillitis, scarlet fever, smallpox, worms, measles, diphtheria, meningitis, tuberculosis, dysentery, and malaria. Swanay also pasted a few articles pertaining to pharmacy and a loose page from his prescription pad with a prescription for a W. B. Short of Lee Valley, Tennessee in the book.
