Letter from F. M. Fulkerson in Rogersville to Mattie (Weir) McAmis, 1866 August 3
This collection contains letters and other papers documenting members of the McAmis family and their descendants across 90 years. The bulk of this collection consists of letters that family and friends in Tazewell wrote to Mattie (Weir) McAmis during the Civil War. Many of these letters were authored by Mattie's eldest daughters, Mary and Maggie. These letters, while mostly personal in content, also discuss wartime activity in Corinth, Mississippi, and describe East Tennessee during the Union occupation of early 1862.
The collection also houses correspondence written to and from Mattie (McAmis) Mitchell -- Mattie (Weir) McAmis's youngest daughter -- and correspondence between Eppie (Mitchell) Frazier -- Mattie (McAmis) Mitchell's daughter -- and her son, Joseph A. Frazier, during World War II while he was stationed in Italy and France.
Alongside the letters, other items include a tintype photograph (possibly of Maggie McAmis) and instructions and patterns related to handicraft projects.
