Knoxville Academy of Medicine Cartoon Postcards, circa 1915

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 2
From the Collection:

This collection consists primarily of several dozen anonymous illustrations pasted onto cardboard squares. Most of these images are composed of cutout portrait heads pasted onto colorful cartoon bodies. Many of these cards are numbered and include names. These names may indicate the identities of the person(s) shown, who are most likely affiliated with the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. A few of the cards were made by pasting entire cartoons onto cardboard. The collection also includes captions written in mirrored text and a few portraits, including one showing Dr. Samuel Moore Miller (1851-1916) of Knoxville, Tennessee. Miller became president of the Tennessee State Medical Association (which was then affiliated with the Knoxville Academy of Medicine) in 1915.
