Biographical/Historical Note
Edwin T. Greninger was born in 1918 and taught history at Eastern Tennessee State University from 1958 until his retirement in 1986. He traveled all over North America and to the Poconos with his family. However, he did not begin to chronicle his trips until World War II when he became the historian for the 358th Anti Aircraft Battalion. His accounts were primarily for his father to know what he saw in Europe but became published works over time. In 1963, Greninger started writing about his travels in Christmas letters, a job formerly held by his late wife Jane. These became publications, read in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Since he began trips with his second wife Gem Kate in 1969, the letters were dated as Gemini I, II, III, etc. Greninger's trip to Russia was published in paperback as Fifteen Days in Russia (1966). Greninger died on December 21, 2007 in Washington County, Tennessee.
