Biographical/Historical Note
No biographical information could be located on Jefferson Cate. However, the Turnley Family was an important early settler family living in East Tennessee in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Originally from Virginia, the Turnleys moved to Jefferson County Tennessee in the 1780's and established themselves for several generations. George and Charlotte Turnley were the first of the Turnleys to live in East Tennessee, and their eldest son John Cunnyngham Turnley contributed a great deal to early East Tennessee history.
