This collection features six stereoviews taken between 1898 and 1900, as well as one undated photograph. The stereoviews are of President McKinley and his cabinet, and of the Spanish-American War. The photograph is of a Tennessee soldier named Fred Nickles. The stereoviews come from various publishers (Strohmeyer & Wyman, Underwood & Underwood, and J. F. Jarvis). The photograph was taken by McCrary & Branson of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Biographical/Historical Note
On April 25, 1898, the United States declared war on Spain following the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898. As a result, Spain lost control over Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippine islands, and Guam, among other islands.
