Biographical/Historical Note
William G. Hunt (d. 1833) and John S. Simpson started The National Banner in 1822. It was combined with The Nashville Whig in 1826 with Hunt as Editor. Hunt, W. Hassell Hunt, and Peter Tardiff purchased The National Banner and The Nashville Whig in 1830, continuing with Hunt as editor.
In 1824, Abram P. Maury and Cary A. Harris began The Nashville Republican, which changed names to Nashville Republican and Tennessee Gazette. John Fitzgerald and Allen A.
