Biographical/Historical Note
The Mercury (widely known as the Charleston Mercury) was printed in Charleston, South Carolina, during the 19th century. It strongly supported secession before the Civil War and famously declared that The Union is Dissolved! when South Carolina became the first state to secede formally.
