Abstract
The LaTain Smith McGhee WWII Memoir, 2001 contains a personal memoir of LaTain Smith McGhee's service in the United States Navy during World War II. Also included are several photographs, as well as transfer orders, awards, and discharge papers.
Biographical/Historical Note
LaTain Smith McGhee graduated Knoxville High School in January, 1944 and entered the Navy only eight days later. He served as a radioman mostly on the USS Lakewood in the Pacific. After the war, he attended the University of Tennessee where he received a BS in accounting and a minor in transportation in 1950. From 1950 to 1987, McGhee worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority.
