Abstract

Biographical/Historical Note

Robert Love Taylor (1850-1912) of Nashville served as U. S. Representative from Tennessee of the 1st District from 1879-81. He was also appointed pension agent in Knoxville in 1886, and he was Governor of Tennessee from 1887-91 and 1897-99. He served as a U. S. Senator, 1907-12. He died in office 1912. Robert L. Taylor is infamously known for having run for Governor of Tennessee in 1886 against his brother Alf (the Republican nominee) in a race that became known as the War of the Roses.
