Abstract

This collection consists of an April 27, 2000 interview with Thomas N. Parlon for the Veteran's Oral History Project at the Center for the Study of War and Society, Department of History, University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Parlon discusses his participation in the National Guard and his service in the Pacific.

Biographical/Historical Note

Thomas N. Parlon was born June 29, 1912 on a farm near Lafayette, Indiana. He joined the National Guard in 1926 at the age of fourteen as a trumpet player (for 3 years). In 1939, he joined the Navy, and later served as an Armed Guard Officer on the S. S. William K. Vanderbilt.
