This collection consists of three pamphlets published by the Office of Civil Defense, Department of Defense from the years 1961, 1964, and 1965. Also included is a Reader's Digest from May 1941. The three pamphlets published are: 1) Fallout Protection, December 1961; 2) Home Protection Exercises, July 1964; 3) Handbook for Emergencies, May 1965.

Abstract

This collection consists of three pamphlets published by the Office of Civil Defense, Department of Defense from the years 1961, 1964, and 1965. Also included is a Reader's Digest from 1941.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Office of Civil Defense was formed in 1961 and was apart of the United States Department of Defense from 1961-1964. The agency was a replacement for the Office of Civil and Defense Mobilization. It saw rebrand once again in May of 1972 when it was named the Defense Civil Prepardness Agency. It officially saw its end due to Exectuive Order 12148. This order brought the agency and other agencies together to form FEMA.
