This collection contains a letter, dated November 14, 1849, from John S. Dashiell to William K. Blair in which Dashiell reviews and comments on the By Laws of Blair's Masonic Lodge. Dashiell approves of the rules adopted by Blair's Lodge with the exception of the measure to fine brothers for non-attendance.
Biographical/Historical Note
John Snyder Dashiell (b. 1807) was a steamboat captain who served in several capacities as a Mason in the Tennessee Grand Lodge from 1840 to 1852. Dashiell's appointments included Grand Secretary, Grand Recorder, Grand Master of Masons, and Deputy High Priest of Grand Chapter. He also served, by the unanimous vote of his ward, as Alderman of Nashville for eight years.
