T. M. Schleier Stereographs Depicting Montvale Springs
These three stereographs are part of a series entitled The Beauties Around Montvale Springs, East Tennessee. They were produced by T. M. Schleier of the American and Foreign Stereoscopic Emporium in Knoxville, Tennessee. Two of the images portray waterfalls, and the third shows several people sitting by a stream.

Schleier of the American and Foreign Stereoscopic Emporium in Knoxville, Tennessee. Two of the images portray waterfalls, and the third shows several people sitting by a stream.
Biographical/Historical Note
Theodore M. Schleier was born on April 20, 1832 in Prussia. He married Caroline E. Knaffl on April 5, 1862 and the couple had one daughter, Matilda W. Schleier was a professional photographer and worked in a number of locations in the southeastern United States, including Nashville (from about 1859 to 1869) and Knoxville (from about 1870 to 1890). He and his family eventually settled in New York City, where Schleier died on December 13, 1908.
