Douglass, the unit's commander.

Biographical/Historical Note
The Tennessee 9th Infantry Regiment was organized at Jackson, Tennessee, in May of 1861. It fought in the battles at Shiloh and Perryville before being merged with the 6th Tennessee Infantry Regiment in December of 1862. The combined regiment was assigned to the Murfreesboro and Atlanta campaigns during 1864 and then to General John Bell Hood's winter operations in Tennessee. It ended the war in North Carolina, where it surrendered on April 26, 1865.
