Abstract

Biographical/Historical Note
Laura Norvell (Elliott) Simpson was born on May 16th, 1884 to Frank Porterfield Elliott (1840-1916) and Moselle (Norvell) Elliott (1853-1927). Laura's maternal great-great-grandfather was Governor John Sevier. She grew up in Nashville, Tennessee in an affluent family and home and attended Harpeth Hall School. After graduating high school, Laura began work in the publishing business, writing for Southern Woman's Magazine and the Woman's Page of the Nashville Tennessean. She married William Thomas Simpson, a carpenter who later worked for the U. S. Postal Service. Laura died in 1975 and is buried with William in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.
