Biographical/Historical Note
The 42nd Army Air Force Bomb Group, now the 42nd Air Base Wing, was activated in 1940, just before the beginning of World War II. It was a medium bomber group that initially served patrolling the Pacific coast after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, reinforcing the defenses of Alaska, and patrolling the Caribbean Sea for German U-boats. It moved to the Southwest Pacific Theater in 1943 where it saw combat in the Solomon Islands, Russell Islands, New Guinea, and the Philippines. After serving as an occupying unit in Japan following the war, it was inactivated in 1946.
No information is available on the 100th Army Air Force Bomb Group.
