Biographical/Historical Note
James Pleasant Rhodes was born on September 11, 1853 in Tennessee. He began the classical education program at East Tennessee University in 1873 but was forced to withdraw due to lack of financial resources in late 1874. Although he apparently intended to return to his studies, he never completed his degree. Rhodes died on January 25, 1945 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Milan, Tennessee.
