This collection contains delicate sheet music for 41 pieces from the 1840s to the 1870s, which previously belonged to Anna A. Newton and William A. Peal. Some of the composers include Stephen C. Foster, Francis H. Brown, H. P. Danks, Harrison Millard, Charles Carroll Sawyer, and Gilles Jullien. There are also two versions of Henry Wordsworth Longfellow's poem "Beware!" set to music, one by James Ernest Perring in 1864, the other by Charles Moulton in 1865. Some of the songs are about love and courtship, temperance and alcoholism, and battles and nationalism.

Biographical/Historical Note

Sheet music is best described as single sheets printed on one or both sides, folios (one sheet folded in half to form four pages), folios with a loose half-sheet inserted to yield six pages, double-folios (an inner folio inserted within the fold of an outer folio to make eight pages) and double-folios with a loose half-sheet inserted within the fold of an inner folio to produce ten pages.

Collection consists of one oversized box.
