Abstract

Biographical/Historical Note
The Advocate and Family Guardian was a newspaper published by the American Female Guardian Society, a Christian social work organization run by women that rehabilitated former prostitutes and otherwise helped the poor. The paper was edited by Sarah R. I. Bennet and most of it was written by women.
