Abstract
This collection contains two copies of Ten Generations of the Bender Family in North Carolina by Dr. Bill Bender for his son Willie Bender. It traces the Bender family and their history from Willie Bender to Martin Bender, whose sons fought in the American Revolution.
Biographical/Historical Note
William Neil (Bill) Bender was born on September 26, 1953, and received his PhD in Special Education from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1983. He taught at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., and has authored over 50 research articles and 13 books. He resigned from the University of Georgia in 2008 following sexual misconduct allegations that spanned over twenty years. With his wife Dr. Renet L. Bender, he operated the Teacher's Workshop in Watkinsville, Ga. His only son, Joseph William (Willie) Bender was born on March 21, 1988, to Dr. Bender and his second wife Susan.
